A new year has already begun

Well I’m way behind on this blog, but it’s never to late to start.  We’re just setting up the fields at the moment, almost ready to start planting.  A lot of our plants got mixed up this year with each other, due to John’s ingenious new method of planting more than one type of pepper in one tray.  We’ve sorted out most of it but there are going to be some random Poblanos in the Thai Dragon section this year.

Little Nipper

The newest family member Olivia is now 7 months old and has just learned to crawl.  She is zooming around everywhere eating everything in site.  The only plus side is she is no longer using everyone as her own personal horse.  She has a habbit of pointing where she wants to go and if we don’t take her there she kicks us.  I keep thinking if she could talk she would be yelling “yah mule!!” but now she can get there on her own.

Last Market This Sunday at Ambleside

Well we’ve had a pretty good year this year, albeit my whole blog writing thing is not going as well as I’d have liked.  Our last maket for the fall is at Ambleside this Sunday so please come out and get the very very last of the artichokes (we don’t have many left so get there early if you want some).  Hope to see you there, and a big thank you for supporting us and the other local farms and artisans in the lower mainland and beyond.  We’ve had a great time, see you in winter.

Plough’s Pickled Products (actually called McColl’s)

Well we’ve finally launched our new preserves under the brand McColl’s.  We’ve started with artichokes (of course), hot jalapeno slices and sauerkraut.  Come by the Farmers Markets to have a sample of our most delicious preserves or go to our website and order direct from us.

McColl’s preserves are finally here !!!!

Nearing the end of season

Well we’re getting to that time of year when a possible frost will come. As soon as it does we’re pretty much finished for the season.
We will be attending only a few more Farmer’s Markets this year ending in White Rock on Sunday November 6th. We would like to thank everyone this year for coming out to see us at all the Farmer’s Markets and we will see you next year.
We may or may not be attending some of the winter markets with our new canned artichokes hearts and baby artichokes, we hope to see you there :)

Another movie gig

Donna has certainly entered Hollywood running, her second gig in only a month. This time she and lots of other regulars from the farmers market will be staring (well as extras) in The L Word. Watch out Julia Roberts here comes Donna Plough :)

Watch out Hollywood here comes Donna

Donna made her breakthrough into hollywood yesterday.  She was an extra in a movie, as you guessed it a vendor selling vegetables at a market.  Her six hour day was full of takes and retakes and a lot of rehersal, plus a tasty breakfast.  Look for her in the movie Traveler in January or February.

The Artichokes are Finally Here

The wait is over, the artichokes have arrived!! yay yay !!! Not in a huge quantity mind you, probably another week before we are totally overwhelmed with the little yummy treats. Those that we do have though are dissapearing quickly, mostly by the family eating them :) or taste testing as we call it.

The Big Cabbage

Big CabbageWe’ve grown a monster of a big cabbage. Weighing at a whopping 13lbs you could make quite a few cabbage roles out of this one. A big thank you to Margaret and Louie for providing us with the cabbage seeds from Hungary last year. This variety is quite sweet so when making coleslaw sugar doesn’t need to be added. I’d like to thank Martin for the picture of Donna and John holding the cabbage. Just water and tender loving weeding created this cabbage.

Farmers’ Markets

We are attending a few markets this year.  Ladner on Sunday, Granville Island every thursday and Nat Bailey every wednesday.  We will be attending some markets at Whistler and possibly the West end.  Please come by and see us sometime.  If you would like to pre order for the markets use our order form and we will have the produce all ready for you.  Please note that if you don’t pick it up 1 hr before the market closes we’ll have to sell it to some other hungry people.  Thanks
